William Sharman

Born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1984 William moved to the UK as a young child and settled into life in the town of Corby, Northamptonshire.

He discovered his abilities in athletics at an early age and competed in the high jump at a track and field event, in his local area, where John Anderson, the former Gladiators referee advised William to focus on athletics.

From then William started training at Corby Athletic Club concentrating on the decathlon and the 110m hurdles. He quickly became the number one ranked under-20 British athlete in both disciplines and won the decathlon at the Amateur Athletic Association U20s Championships in 2003, but gave up on the event after sustaining a shoulder injury whilst throwing the javelin.

Whilst focussing on the 110m hurdles he quickly became one of the best young hurdlers in the UK and during the season leading up to the 2006 European Athletic Championships he won three events and was selected to represent Great Britain.

William’s athletic career hit new levels recently when he finished fourth in the final of the 110m hurdles at the World Championships in Berlin clocking up a personal best time of 13.30 seconds.
