Ciara Horne

Throughout her whole life, Ciara Horne has dreamt of competing at the Olympics and testing herself at the peak of competition.

Ciara started out as a swimmer when she was seven years old, quickly becoming nationally competitive before a shoulder injury led her to convert to triathlon. As a triathlete Ciara did well, finishing 8th at the Salford Junior World Cup, but the lure of the bike was too strong. At the end of 2009 she decided to specialise as a cyclist and hasn’t looked back.

She earned the right to represent Ireland in 2010, her first full season as a cyclist. Through diligent training, the results have been promising at National and International level, including breaking the Irish National record for the Team Pursuit on four occasions at the Holland International Track meet, European Track cycling championships, Cali World Cup and Manchester World Cup. Furthermore, Ciara held the national record holder for the 10 mile time trial in 2011.

Ciara’s goal is to continue improving on the track and on the road, with the hope of representing Ireland at the London 2012 Olympic Games and other major events in the future.
