It’s all happening at once, I have been back from Australia now for four weeks and when I was in Australia I knew something wasn’t quite right. So finally now I am home sweet home I can get it sorted.

So, I thought, a day in and out of hospital and it will be sorted. A small procedure will take care of this, well, that’s what I thought, anyway I won’t go into too much detail but to cut a long ongoing long story short, that “small procedure” I had really knocked me about. Bad timing or what, as I flew to Germany the next day for the Siegerland Cup Triathlon, in Buschutten Germany.

So off I flew, not feeling great and in some need to catch up on some sleep. With me travelling on the Friday and racing on the Sunday, there wasn’t much time to chill, but Michelle made sure I was rested just enough to race and thankfully I had a good race. Happy Days!

So, the race itself, started with a 1km open air pool swim. A little different to what we’re used to but there we go. There were eight women in each lane, who all started together, which meant it was a first come first serve to lead the lane, so I took the front.

I have to say it was very strange racing a pool swim, it felt like I was nine again and racing Wombourne Tri or something. I stayed at the front of the swim and got onto the bike first and managed to stay there for the whole of the cycle. It was a non-drafting race.

The course was really windy to say the least and with most of the other women on full TT bikes and me on my road bike. I just dug in and kept pushing, however, I knew the second and third girls were not far behind me, so I kept wishing the run would come sooner.

Once on the run I felt good. It was eight laps and each lap there was a steep short hill and the rest was a twisty turner, which made it quite difficult to get into a rhythm. But I was happy with winning the race. It was great to race in Buschutten for the first time and I am looking forward to racing for them next year.

Since I have been back, my sponsors have really been spoiling me and I have had the best gear from Saucony, Orca, Oakley and Powerbar, truly the best products around and I cannot thank you guys enough for supporting me. I have such a great team behind me.

I have been holding back on this news for a while and now I have permission to spill the beans. My new ride for 2011 will be the Scott Addict R1. It’s the sweetest ride I have had the pleasure of riding. It’s stiff light frame and handles like a dream and I have Tri-1st Triathlon Shop to thank for this!

So my next month is planned as follows – 21 May is the first of the British Super Series Races so I’ll jetting off to bonnie Scotland to race Strathclyde and then onto Madrid WCR on 5 June and two weeks after that on 18 June it’s the Kitzbuhel WCR.

JODIE STIMPSON: SYDNEY WORLD CHAMP SERIES 2ND RACE 2ND CRASH

The start of the 2011 World Championship Series . . . well let’s just say did not go exactly to plan, but I am not disheartened as it’s a stepping stone and I am looking forward to jumping onto a bigger lily pad.

So the race, well the lead up first of all was fine, Michelle didn’t let me do much at all in the days prior and I felt like the preparation had all gone well leaving me really excited and ready to race to see where I was.

I started as number 29, and going onto the pontoon I noticed that the field was split. With half the top girls on the right and the other on the left, I was stuck. I gambled and randomly decided to go to the left, as I thought there was a bit of a current coming over and didn’t want to get pushed over. But in the end it didn’t really make any difference, as I had a shocker of a first lap. At one point I looked over to my right and saw clear water, which might have been a good thing, but then I realised that the rest of the field was in front of that clear water!

I got around the first buoy and found myself just behind Helen Jenkin’s feet, so I knew that she wasn’t in her usual position either. I couldn’t moan, Helen’s feet are always good feet to be on, and when we exited the water from the first lap we had already made up some ground.

I dived back in, and all I could do was try and swim through and to be fair I had a pretty good second lap and moved up and out of T1 just short of the lead pack, and I managed to bridge across quite quickly.

On the bike I found myself going from the front of the pack, to the middle, to the back and then back to the middle of the pack, there was nowhere to go! This is not a good way to be riding, inexperienced riders cutting in and out made me feel a little uneasy and one thing I will say is that I for sure need to get more practice in sitting in a better position in the pack – a learning curve.

The bike group was extremely twitchy, with about 30 or more riders doing 180° turns, and all I can remember is about halfway through on lap two, I saw Sarah Groff come down from her bike and someone scream. Unfortunately for me, I was sitting behind Sarah.

It was one of those times where things happen in slow motion and you just can’t do anything about it at all. I saw a bunch of girls go down and then someone took me out and I went (yet again) sliding across the pavement, flying over Helen Jenkins and Sarah Groff on my way down.

Fair play to the girls that carried on, I saw Helen afterwards and looks like she came off just as bad – if not worse – than me! And for the girls that couldn’t carry on, I feel for you, nobody ever wants to pull out of a race and after Mooloolaba all I could think was “I’ll finish if it kills me!”

So I jumped back on my bike and saw red mist going into Time Trial Mode, I stuck my head down, gritted my teeth and could hear Michelle shouting out at me time splits from the lead pack. It started at about 32 seconds and was going down, which was great because every time I heard I was getting closer it kept me pushing on and on.

The next thing I knew I could see them in the distance and once I could see them, I knew I could reel them in get back in with the group and by the fifth lap of eight I was back with them.

I tried to stay out of trouble, and entered T2 at the back of the lead pack and I could see the girls already had a gap on me and you just can’t do that with these girls as they’re too good. I tried to storm out of T2 but for whatever reason it just wasn’t meant to be and it was far from being my best run.

However, I was determined to cross that finishing line at whatever position I ended up in. 23rd is my 2011 starting point, not where I wanted to be and I will say it is not where I will be finishing come the end of the year. Yes, it’s a starting point and I’m looking forward to my next race, which I think will be Yokohama, if the race is on.

I’m heading back home in six days! I’m so excited to see my family and friends now. I think it’s fair to say that I’ve missed them so much, and it’s true what they say . . . “There’s no place like home”.

JODIE STIMPSON: NOT THE START I’D HOPED FOR BUT SYDNEY IN TWO WEEKS

After all the training in Australia with Team Dillon, I was starting to feel good and freshen up. It’s been a tough training camp, so I was really looking forward to my first race in the Mooloolaba World Cup however Mooloolaba obviously didn’t feel the same.

The weekend started with us moving into the Hyatt Column on Thursday, which Patrick helped me out with, yet again, which I’m totally grateful for doing. Patrick’s support whilst I’ve been out in Australia has been awesome, and I cannot thank him enough. The place is really beautiful and totally posh (which I’m not used to), so was I was truly blessed to stay in such a great place.

So after we moved into our new home for the weekend we all headed down to the race briefing, the same routine, uniform check, race rule run-through and then out for dinner with the team.

Friday was ticking over with a few pickups, but it was race day for the first two members of the team. It was the 5k run race down in Mooloolaba which my roommate Chris ran really well, with a time of 16.07 and Martin ran a cracking 27.12, so well done guys.

Saturday was near enough the same, just ticking over, but was race day for our TD boys, Will and Stu. They both headed down and came back with a 8th and 11th. Congratulations to them both, well deserved!

After a little jog and breakfast, I headed down to the race. I felt good in the swim warm up and was ready to go on the start line. The sea was pretty breezy to say the least, which I knew would make for an interesting start.

The gun fired so I ran and dived into the sea. I felt ok for the first few strokes but then all of a sudden felt myself draining in energy. I knew then my goal was just to finish the swim and I did the 1500m fighting instead of swimming.

The run up to transition and then onto the bike, I was about 30 seconds down from the leaders, and then things just went from bad to worse. The heavens opened and it started hammering down with rain. This subsequently made the roads very oily and slippery, especially the far corner of the course.

On the first bend myself and three other athletes were down. I smacked my head on the floor and went skidding for what felt like ages. I jumped back on my bike with what felt like a HUGE bump on my head and some cuts and grazes and tried to carry on, but I just went backwards through the packs.

I’m not one for pulling out of races at all, I would rather carry on and finish last than Did Not Finish (DNF), however I reminded myself that Sydney was in two weeks and I needed to think of the World Cup Series (WCS) and running after a bump to my head probably wasn’t the best idea.

Truly gutted and upset about the race, it wasn’t the crash, I would never blame that, it just was not my day. So Mooloolaba gave me a nice bruised forehead, a few cuts and grazes and I will leave it at that.
In two weeks time I’m on the start line at Sydney World Championship Race. The first of the WCS, so time to re-focus. Well done to everyone who finished the race, it was tough going.

JODIE STIMPSON: TOUGH BUT GOOD

Things are tough out here training wise, I’m really tired most of the time, and in between sessions the compressions are put straight on. The PowerBar protein goes straight down my neck, and I’m stretching and stretching, getting ready for the next session.

I’ve defiantly learnt the art of sleeping between training sessions and it does help. I know a lot of people don’t get an opportunity to sleep between sessions and I never really used to myself, but out here with the air-conditioning on I’m able to just to try and get that extra bit of recovery for my body.

So I’ve got a few things to tell you, firstly Mr Will Clarke did an awesome job at the Australia Sprint Champs finishing in 4th place and Kathy Trembley also did a great job at the 5k, breaking the course record in 16.35, well done guys. I did the 5k as well, and let’s just say I wasn’t happy with it at all and I’ll move on to the next session.

Chris Hayward is my room-mate out here and it’s great to have him to train with. It’s amazing how much he has improved especially in the pool, but when you’ve got Michelle as a coach I wouldn’t expect anything else.

We also have a new member of Team Dillon with us, which I’m extremely lucky to have treat me, Yulia is a sports masseur, and is great at her job. Everyone is just waiting for their next appointment with her and that certainly includes me. Thank you Yuila you’re keeping us all training hard.

Really not long until Mooloolaba World Cup which will be my first race of the 2011. I was going to race beforehand, but unfortunately that didn’t go to plan so Mooloolaba will be my first triathlon of year and not a bad one to start the season.

There was a local race, Kingscliff triathlon which a few good friends raced from the Gold Coast, Nicki, Patrick (who had some bad luck, swimming the whole way with no goggles and then all the bike without drinking water and still finished!) Sam who got 3rd and the champion of the day Liz who won her age group. Well done guys.

JODIE STIMPSON: THINGS LOOKING GOOD ON THE COAST

Ok, so last week it was my 22nd birthday and Kathy Trembly made me a great birthday cake (thanks Kathy), and to be fair I think I earned it. The morning of my birthday we had a killer of a session so was good to tuck into a slab of birthday cake as a treat afterwards.

I do miss home sometimes and on my birthday I really did. I wished they were out here with me, but talking to mum over Skype in the morning made me feel good, and she opened some of my cards over the webcam for me – thank God for the internet.

My favourite session out here is definitely the long run in the LakeLands which I have been building on since I got out here. It’s quite surreal running past the wild Kangaroos and then trying to keep up with Michelle when she goes on a surge, really makes the time fly by.

This week’s training on the coast has taken a little turn for the good and things are getting a bit faster which is always nice to see. I know I have to be patient, and I am trying, and when Michelle turns up the heat it makes me try even harder.

The latest bit of gossip is that I have a new house mate out here, Chris Hayward, who has been staying with me for around three weeks and I’m warning people out there he will be one to watch. Chris has the biggest calves I think I have ever seen, but bloody hell he is fast. I have already led him astray just a little bit and introduced him to Baskin and Robin’s ice cream. This is my treat for smashing those balls in the wheelie bin. Ice cream is without doubt the best, my fave! Peanut Butter Ice cream – I can taste it now.

I nearly forgot, I’ve had the huge privilege of being one of the faces of the new Powerbar poster. So, thanks again to Powerbar and all my sponsors for the 2011 season. Will be updating people soon with my confirmed supporters for this season.

JODIE STIMPSON: TEAM DILLON HAS FUN ON AUSTRALIA DAY!

Well training has been full on these past couple of weeks, especially since the arrival of my new training partner, and new addition to Team Dillon – Kathy Trembley. It’s great to have another female on the team, and we’re pushing each other every day on all of the sessions which is great and I’m loving it.

I want it that little bit more when you have someone sprinting to the line with you, or swimming stroke per stroke, pedal per pedal.

Having yet another Olympian in the group is pretty impressive. We’ve got a two-time Olympian as a coach (GB’s highest place finisher), Stu Hayes (Mr Consistent) and of course gutsy winner of the Kitzbhuel World Championship Series Race last year, and Will and Kathy who have both been to the Olympics. So, could I possibly be with a better team . . . . . hmmmm it’ll take some beating.

So you’ve got me and Kathy training well, and Stu and Will are training great, as well as Michelle cracking the whip, the ball’s in the wheelie bin sessions are truly in full flow.

Australia Day Aquathon (short but definitely ball smashing)

On Australia day Will and I took part in The Burleigh Beach Swim Run. Burleigh has a beautiful beach, and the whole race was great fun. A bit unusual, we had a 400m sea swim and a 3.8k run, not the distances we are used to but boy I had a great time.

The sea swim is always interesting and I made sure I was next to the person I knew could ride the waves, she’s like a surf board herself Mrs Liz Blatchford and she did as I expected and got to the buoy second.

And with me close behind, coming back into the beach she got a small lead with Kirsten Sweetland and some other lifeguard girls. So I had a bit of a hard chase out of transition, and then came storming behind me was Ashley Gentle, who ran through the field to take the win.

I tried to catch up but just couldn’t make up the ground I needed to, and crossed the line in fourth place, which I was happy with. So well done to the champion Ashley, second Kirsten and third Liz, good job girls. It was great to have a fun race, and remember how this racing thing works!

Clarkey was down out of the water but had a truly awesome run to finish fourth as well. Australia Day was as it should be, fun, fun, fun.

So the following day it was back to the normal balls in the wheelie bin sessions. Then on the night Team Dillon and a group of friends went to a very posh restaurant on the Gold Coast called Kio. It was a treat, an expensive treat, but one that you’re worth of Mr Clarke.

It’s Will’s birthday on Monday, so an early happy birthday to Mr Will Clarke.

My Christmas and New Year.

So, after I got back from my training camp with the BTF I spent as much time as possible with family and friends and I well and truly loved it. I had a really good two weeks at home and I have got to say I enjoyed a bit too much of the Christmas food.

Hard to resist when there is cheesecake, white chocolate bombs, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, M&S toffee shortbread. Honestly, there was no stopping me.

I was doing most of my training at the Village Hotel in Dudley, as it was the only place near to me that was open over the festive period, but to be fair they had a good offer on, £12.00 for 12 days unlimited, so I was happy chappy.

On Christmas day I got up and had a turbo session to do before everyone got up, so I was on the turbo for about 6.20am and by the time Mum and Dad were up and about I was nearly done, so perfect timing.

I quickly got a shower and made some breakfast and then got to open all my presents from Santa. I must have been an extremely good girl this year because I got totally spoilt. Thank you everyone for all my lovely presents.

After I finished opening all my goodies I got ready and went to the Village for a bit of a run, where I was joined by Mum running on the treadmill next to me and we then treated our self to a quick dip in the Jacuzzi.

After we had made the room for our dinner, me and Mum got back home to finish off the cooking, whilst Dad and Carrie went down the pub (that’s tradition).

Mum didn’t get to enjoy her hard work over dinner as she spent the rest of the day in bed as she wasn’t very well, poor mum (I may have made up for her absence though!) The rest of the day was spent not too far from the settee watching soaps and films and eating chocolate.

Boxing Day was the traditional, up my Auntie Kay’s to see the family were my nan, grandad, aunties and uncle and cousins were there. To me it’s the best things about Christmas, spending time with my family, I am bias, but I have so got the best family.

Just before I came out to Australia, the Hayes’ in my family did such a great thing for me, they ebayed at lot of their old stuff and gave me the money they collected to help me out in Australia. This just shows what my family are like, they are so supportive and helping me out like this is mind blowing to me, thank you so much. Love you all.

On the 28th I flew out to my second home (The Gold Coast) to join my second family Team Dillon, to firstly celebrate going into 2011 and then of course to get ready for it.

New Years Eve, and Team Dillon went around to the Clarke’s house and had BBQ, proper Aussie style and Stuart and Will were in charge of the food, and did a very good job. Then we all moved on to the casino down in Surfers to see the clocks move into 2011. I spent $20, and lost $20, so I think I should stick to triathlon.

So this is where the real “Balls in the Wheelie bin” start and I cannot wait. Exciting times with Team Dillon as we have an extended team for 2011 with Mr and Mrs Clarke and Kathy Tremblay training with us. BRING IT ON.

All there is left to say now is hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all this 2011 year.

JODIE STIMPSON: ENDING THE SEASON ON A HIGH IN BARCELONA

So firstly apologies in advance as this blog is going to be a bit scatty, technical difficulties and all that. Ok, so before my last blog was published, it wasn’t actually finished, so I’ll start by adding the bit I missed out in the last one, hence the scatty-ness!

So here we go…

Before I left for Dallas, I headed down to Milton Keynes to see John Dennis at www.velomotion.co.uk so he could attempt to make my road bike suit a time trial race. So, changing my bike position, it worked out great and John got me in a comfortable position so I was ready to go. I’m going to head over there again once Wiggle gives me the new Focus bike for next year, so I can get the most beneficial position for my races next year. Thank you John for fitting me in before Dallas.

Ok, now for the Barcelona report…

This was my last race of my 2010 season. I hadn’t long got off the plane from Dallas; in fact I landed on the Tuesday morning and flew out again on Thursday afternoon. Not complaining though, as this is the part I love… racing.
So, I set out on Thursday for Barcelona, not alone though, I was joined by Mum, Dad, Carrie, my cousin Carli, her partner Sim and family friend Wayne. What a crowd and I have got to say a huge thank you to these guys, they made my last race of the year really special.

Before the race I couldn’t do much at all really, racing the weekend before and making sure I adapted to the different time zones from Dallas, UK and Barcelona, a real nightmare. In Dallas where I left Stuart and Michelle, Michelle threatened not to set me any training programme between the two races to prove a point, but I think that I would have over trained. So thank God I persuaded her to send me a programme, without that I don’t think I would have got to the start line, never mind won the race.

So, race morning I was up nice and early at 5.30am and my poor sister Carrie who was sharing a room with me also got up at that time, but she did get a nice breakfast so I think that helped her get out of bed. Down to the restaurant and I had a couple of strong coffees and a Powerbar, (if it’s an early start like this one, I can’t stomach much, but a quick Powerbar fix sorts me out) and Carrie had some eggs on toast and a hot chocolate (or two). A few of the other athletes were in the hotel as well, including Javier Gomez.

It wasn’t long before I was on my bike, cycling down to the race to set up transition…in the dark. The transition area was huge, with loads of people taking part, but there was a huge distance from transition to the swim start, and the ins and outs of the massive transitions were a bit of a mission.

After I set up transition, and worked out the big runs ins and outs I went over to the swim start where I met up with the support crew, handed over my bags and went for a run warm up before testing out the sea. The waves weren’t as bad as last year thankfully and it was quite warm which I was pleasantly surprised at.

Just before 8am, I popped a Powerbar double latte gel and was ready for the start at 8.10am and as we ran into the sea the sun rise was just coming up in time for us to see the first buoy. On the beach start I don’t think the men liked a woman on the front of the line waiting to run in, but hey ho lump it lads and get used to it. That’s the great and unusual thing about this race. You get to race with the men, swim with them, draft off them and try and beat them on the run. Love it!

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and I’m off. The short run into the sea and swimming with the waves wasn’t as rough with the men as what I thought it would be, but it did seem to take a while to get to the first buoy (I suppose it would do swimming against the waves) then a straight line across and back into the beach.

My legs didn’t feel great running on the beach up to T1, but there was defiantly time for me to get these into gear as the run was so long to T1. T1 wasn’t as smooth as I usually like it to be, probably because I don’t usually have to think about a race belt, but this race I did, so as I went to run off with my bike, I spotted the race belt on the floor, so quickly shoved it on and off I ran.

On the bike I could see two blokes in front of me, but I couldn’t quite catch them on my own, but a group of guys were close behind me so I jumped on their train, and managed to work with them to catch the guys in front, but Gomez had a group with him that contained about eight, so I had no chance to draft off the World Champ.

The gap grew from my group to Gomez’s to about 3½ minutes by the time I headed out onto the run, but I just did my thing and bolted out of T2 and ran as hard as I could. Some of the blokes in my group did the same and I tried to hold on to them for as long as I could and then just kept pushing.

I felt ok (ish) until about 7km then had a bad patch for about another km and then came good again and got to enjoy the last km through the fantastic crowds that surrounded the run course. As I came down the finishing straight, I spotted my Dad, so the high fives began until I got to the finish and grabbed the finishing ribbon. Winner!

When I finished, I went over to my support crew and found my Uncle, Auntie and two cousins had also come over to watch, as they were leaving to go on their holiday close by, so was great to have everyone there.

It was great to finish my season with a win and having my family there, smiles on everyone’s faces and a big cheesy one on mine! Now, I’m back home for a day, and I’m going on a week’s holiday with my good friend Zoe and I’m under strict instructions not to take my trainers. My mum has already said she will be checking my suitcase to make sure I haven’t popped them in.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been there for me this season. It’s had its ups and downs and you guys have been there through both. Thank you to all my sponsors that have helped me so much this year, you guys are the best and I truly look forward to working with you next year, there are exciting times ahead.

JODIE STIMPSON: BRITISH SUPER SERIES CHAMPION… AGAIN

The race at Bryn Bach Parc was the final race of the Elite British Super Series and also doubled up as the National Sprint Championships.

At the beginning of the week my legs had felt fairly bad coming off the back of the World Champs in Budapest. I found it an absolute nightmare to walk up the stairs, never mind go for a run, which I think was obviously to do with the race and not being 100% well. I think it took me longer to get over, however Michelle took care of me and made sure I was ready to race.

So, I drove up to Wales on Saturday afternoon with my mum who kept me company. We went straight to the course so I could go around the bike route and check it out just to make sure I knew where I needed to be.

We went back to the hotel to grab to some dinner before going back to the room for the night, just relaxing watching TV (of course X-factor was on, so we were in stitches for most of the evening).

Woke up Sunday morning and went for a little jog. As I sat down to eat breakfast, the weather seemed to be getting worse and worse and I really felt for the IRC kids that were out racing. Unfortunately it seemed worse conditions for them, so a huge well done to them for finishing and of course well done to West Midlands. You all did the region proud, a great display of courage from the younger competitors.

Now it was time for the women’s race.

I usually go for a swim warm up but with the water temperature being 12 degrees and the wind temperature being -2 degrees, Michelle wouldn’t let me get in and she was right as usual.

So once I warmed up on the land, we were called into the water and I started next to Liz and Helen which was perfect. The only time I ever hear Helen shout is in the water, as she did in this one as it was bloody freezing so that was a good thing.

All the girls were edging forward due to the strong current and the starters were keeping us in longer, trying to get us back between the buoys, so with a little help from Helen shouting at the girls we started quite quickly (thankfully).

I was swimming next to Liz up until the first buoy and then jumped on her feet and didn’t move from there. I was on the back of the lead pack and was happy to stay exactly where I was. Into T1 and I think I was stood up out of the water in around sixth, I ran through transition next to Helen who couldn’t get her wetsuit off because she was too cold.

So Liz and I tried to help her as we were running through, I think Liz managed to get the zip down in the end. Onto the bike a small group of us formed, I found myself in good company with Helen, Liz, Abbie and Kerry and we all worked together from the off.

Onto the ride and Abbie wasn’t able to stay with us and the cold was nibbling away at Liz as the laps went on. So Liz had to pull out with cramp and that left me, Helen and Kerry. At this point I was feeling great on the hilly course thanks to my Focus bike which had Lightweight wheels thanks to Wiggle. This made a significant difference going up the climb on each lap – I love a hilly bike course.

The gap got up to 1.30+ I think, coming into T2 and myself and Kerry were out of T2 side by side, but in my usual style I bolted to try to get an advantage over Helen as I knew I would need every second on her for the win.

I didn’t get very far before I was joined by Helen and half way round the first lap Helen moved to the front, I tried to hang onto her for as long as I could but Helen was way to strong and I just couldn’t do anything about it except keep running hard. I finished in second place today but still ended up British Super Series Champion for the second year running. Chuffed or what.

It meant so much to have my family and friends supporting me this weekend. I think I had the biggest and loudest support crew there. Thank you so much guys for being there and sharing with me the win of the Series. Love you all.

Next up for me is Dallas non-drafting race in three weeks, so leading up to this race I am going to try and get some miles in on the bike. I love racing in America and am really excited to go with Michelle and Stuart.

JODIE STIMPSON: NO EXCUSES, JUST A REASON

Well this is the World Championship Final, and it’s the most important race left in my 2010 schedule, for more reasons than one. It is not only a World Championship Series race, but it’s the final in the Series and everyone in the world is here, so I wanted to race well against them and doing it in the final would – in my mind – put aside my bad luck in the World Champs Series so far but yet again, lady luck was just not on my side.

So… I got to Budapest on the Wednesday, already not feeling 100% with a bad throat and then on Friday night I had to move rooms because I couldn’t stop going to the loo. Yep the poops. Great!

I was sharing a room with Jodie Swallow (great girl) and once I had made three trips to the loo, I had to leave her in peace. Thankfully she didn’t even realize I had gone, and was rather confused in the morning when the bed next to her was empty. I was the moved into quarantine at midnight, and stayed there until race day. Friday night was a bad night for me, hardly slept and stomach was churning, then Saturday I managed to keep some food down and my stomach and energy levels didn’t feel to bad, Sunday came and I felt ready to go.

Sunday morning I woke up and felt rearing to go, so off I went. I didn’t have the best swim, but not terrible. It was a wetsuit swim which I wasn’t too pleased with as it helps the slower swimmers, and I didn’t have the best place on the pontoon as my ranking was so low (that’s got to change). So I got out the water a bit further back than I would of liked, but managed to jump onto the back of the lead pack by the end of 10k. So with 30k to go, the lead pack was very jumpy with speed, and nerves from watching the men’s race. It was a hard ride but I was there and was ready to bolt on the run.

Well my mind was ready, but again my legs weren’t. I got onto the run and went straight onto the back of Helen’s heels and immediately felt bad and I was only 600m in. I knew I was in for a long 10k, and that’s just what it was, I died.

I’m not blaming it on my stomach, even though it didn’t help, but my legs just weren’t with me. NOT A GOOD DAY AT THE OFFICE! So angry.

So, what’s left? I’ve got three races left to finish off my 2010 season This weekend it’s the National Sprint Championships in Bryn Bach Park, Wales, then Dallas on 10th October, LifeTime Fitness non-drafting race, and then finally The Challenger Barcelona Triathlon on 17th October, so I will try by best to end on a high.

This season for me – so far – has had more lows than I would have liked. My coach Michelle always says to me I’m still learning, but I don’t like learning in this way, it’s so hard.

I have got to end this blog by saying the biggest congratulations to all the GB guys and gals who raced in the Elite, U23, Junior and Age Group levels. Alistair and Jonny Brownlee for their wins, Miss Helen Jenkins for her fourth overall ranking this year and Miss Vicky Holland for such a great year and her sixth in the race today.

If you’re at a loose end this weekend pop down to Bryn Bach in Tredegar loads of superstars racing the Nationals at such a fantastic venue. Hope to see you there.
