After the BTF (British Triathlon Federation) informed me that I was no longer going to be supported with their funding next year, I must admit that I was not looking forward to panicking about money. This past year has been difficult enough even with their financial support, so I was definitely worried about the funding side of things for 2010. It’s not a nice feeling for anyone when you have to worry about money and I was now wondering how I was going to be able to make the trip to Australia early next year – the trip that was so life changing for me at the beginning of this year. The time I spent in Australia at the early part of 2009, was the catalyst for this season’s performances – where I managed to deliver 2 silver medals for GB. I don’t want to miss the opportunity to spend my winter out in Australia, which will once again move me up another level for the up and coming 2010 season!
So as one door closed, the apprehension and worrying started. However a wise person once told me “when one door closes – another one opens” – and the opening door in question, has been opened by a man called Patrick Hardy, who now lives out in the Gold Coast and who is also coached by Michelle under Team Dillon.
Patrick has helped lift a heavy weight off my shoulders for next year and he has agreed to help me out in massive way financially. Not only that but he is also helping me out with accommodation when I’m training out here (in Australia) next year and when I’m racing across the globe – following my dream of gold medals on the Elite World stage. Patrick is one kind, genuine guy who has agreed to help me so much for next year and for which I am extremely grateful!
Patrick has given me the opportunity to focus more on what is my life passion – “Triathlon” and reaching my goals. I have no doubts in my ability to reach my career goals and I will do all I can to achieve them. With the best coach in the business, close family and friends supporting me what more could a girl ask for. . . it will be achieved!
I have a great team of people behind me both at home and abroad, which also includes my very valuable sponsors who provide me with some great kit and equipment. 2010 is no doubt going to be a very crucial season – however with people like Patrick and their financial support, I am hoping that the financial burden will be lifted and I can fully concentrate on training, racing and podiums.
So bring on the “balls in the wheelie bin sessions” ay. . . .LOVE IT!!
